Wedding in Conneticut

The Friday after my birthday I took a red eye flight to Hartford, CT to attend the wedding of an old family friend. I was broke since I had just completed my first week at my new job, so I opted not to get a hotel. The wedding was an hour from the airport, so not getting a rental car wasn't an option.

I landed in Hartford at 6:15am after not getting much sleep on my 5 and a half hour fligt, even though there were only 2 of us sharing the 3 seats (the guy in the aisle was upgraded to first at the last minute. NICE!). The rental agency didn't open until 7, so I used this time to see what flights were leaving BDL on any airline to any city because I wasn't sure that I would make the flight out the next morning on my own airline.

I picked up the car and headed out. I made it to the inn where the wedding party was staying by 8am with little difficulty an only got lost once, because I missed my turn. In my defense, the road isn't well marked. I found a parking spot right in front and tried to get some sleep. My dad called around 8:45 and offered that I could crash in his room for a while before the wedding starts at 3. He was only 30 minutes away, so I took him up on it. Lynda and I did some light shopping (I needed hose and she needed a blouse), then we returned to the room. They went to Mystic, CT and I closed the lovely blackout drapes and took a nap.

They returned and we got ready and went to the wedding. It was beautiful. It was in the town square on the edge of the river. I have attached a link to the pictures from the trip at the end.

After the short and personal ceremony, we had a little time to wander around the town then head to the reception. The reception dinner was held on a historic steam train. It was a lot of fun and really pretty watching the sun set and the fall leaves as we ate.

After the train returned to the station, the party moved to a large room at the inn. It was an open bar and there were a LOT of takers. I hung out with the bride's mom, sister, step dad, and step brothers (all of whom are old family friends/part of my extended family.) The brides mom was plastered. It was hilarious. If you didn't have a drink in your hand, she made you get another. I was immune since I had to drive an hour back to the airport for my flight that left at 6:15am. Oh yes, that is not a typo 6:15AM. The sister and step-brothers were the last people to go to bed after 1am, so that is when I headed to the airport. I dropped off the car and was at the airport around 3:00am. Now I had to wait for the ticket counter to open, so I slept. I woke up around 4:00 and the kiosks were open, so I checked in and headed to security, which was closed. By the time I returned from the bathroom they were open. I made it to the gate, found a good spot and curled up and went back to sleep. I woke up again a little while later, but no employees were at the desk yet. I was very anxious to find out if I was going to get on this flight. I finally approached them around 5:45am to see if I made it or if I needed to try to get on the flight out of the neighboring gate to DC. I had a seat, and it was an AISLE. SCORE! I got some food and boarded the plane. I slept more on this flight, but not much. I was home and in bed by 10:30 am. I spent the day watching tv and sleeping. I finally took a sleeping pill and went to bed around 8pm.

I got no sleep that weekend, but it was totally worth it!
