Christmas Part 1

Jen, Jon and the girls came down to Phoenix a few weeks ago so we could have an early Christmas. Jen and the girls arrived on Thursday, Jon arrived on Friday.

Dad had a Christmas party for his employees on Saturday. After having a lazy morning we decided it was time to go shopping for the party, but there was one problem. Dad, Lynda and I each have a subaru (all different years and styles) which only seat 5 people. Jen's family alone is 5 people. This means we don't have a car big enough for all of us, so we split up. Dad and Lynda took Chloe and went to Costco. Jen, Jon, Lucy, Hannah and myself went to Trader Joe's. There was a minute of trauma when Lucy figured out that she wasn't going with Grandpa, Lynda and Chloe, but we talked her down with the promise of treats. You got to love 3 year olds. Everything is made better with a treat.

Anyway, the party was a lot of fun. Chloe threw a tantrum when she got told that she couldn't have anymore chocolate and spent a good portion of the evening in her room because "this party isn't fun for kids." I had a chat with her and got her to come back out on the promise that everyone was dancing. She came out and didn't see everyone dancing so she went back to her room. I told her they were dancing, just not where she could see from where she was. She came out again and spent the rest of the night dancing with everyone. Her endless energy was a hit! She danced and jumped around for the next few hours.

Lucy was dancing didn't throw the tantrum and was dancing with everyone, until she crashed, hard. She was asleep for most of the party.

Dad's office had done a secret santa drawing, and it was time to open presents. I wasn't sure how Chloe would handle everyone opening presents and her not getting one, so I went into my room and got some of the presents I had gotten for her for Christmas. I was going to put them in a gift bag really quick so she could open something as well. When I went into the room, Lucy wasn't there, so I went looking for her. I found her in Jen's room, where she informed me that she was tired and wanted to sleep. I told her we were opening presents if she wanted to join us. Her little eyes popped open and she jumped out of bed. I didn't think she could move that fast! I promise you she was no longer tired. I helped her get her christmas dress back on and she went running out of the room. Good thing I had lots of toys! I threw together 2 gift baskets really quick. No tissue no nothing, just the toys in a bag. Good thing they are little! They loved it and everyone was really nice and played along when I announced that I too was a secret santa.

The next day, Sunday, we had a lazy morning then we started cooking our "christmas dinner." We ate all our favorite holiday side dishes and had steak as our main dish. After dinnner we opened presents. It was a lot of fun.

Monday was a lazy day for everyone. Both Dad and I had the day off so we all just hung out and watched movies. Lucy and Chloe played with their new toys.

Tuesday morning I took Jon to the airport and Lynda brought Jen and the girls down later (again with that whole 1 car isn't big enough problem). I headed to work and they all made their flight home.

It was a crazy and relaxing and fun weekend. The weirdest part is that in my head Christmas had already happened. I spent the next couple of days wondering why everyone was still getting ready for christmas. I got over it, but is was weird for a few days.
