My Lucky Day

07/07/07 may have been the luckiest day of the year, but it wasn't for me. 07/08/07 was. The day started with me actually sleeping in. I watched TV for a little while then I head out to meet my dad for a round of golf. I stopped at Walmart to see about getting another golf shirt. I found 2 I liked, as well as 2 pairs of shorts. I hardly EVER find anything I like there, the luck had begun.

I also needed a bag to keep my golf accessories in (shoes, balls, glove etc.). Walmart had a rack of purses on clearance for $5. I found a purse that was perfect for what I needed. Sunday was really starting to ROCK!

I made it up to my dad in no time and actually had time to warm up before our round. Our tee time was at 1:06. I had to leave around 5 if I was going to make it into work by 6. Dad teed off at 1:14pm.

My first 8 holes rocked. Not because I was playing especially well, but because the course was really working for me. My crappy shots were rolling farther than they should have. My shots that went off to the right, rolled to the center of the fairway. Hole #2 was the best. It is a par 3 and I got a 2. That's right, I got my first birdie on a championship course. It was awesome!

My new trend in golf is to get a 6, especially on a par 4. Well, I was getting lots of 6s with a few 5s thrown in. Then, on the 9th hole things didn't work so well. I got a 10. Well, it turns out, when Dad totalled our score card we each shot 50 on the front 9. That's right, I had the same score as my dad! This was a good day! If only I hadn't tanked it on the 9th hole I would have done better than him.

Well, the back 9 went about the same as the first 9. Mostly 6s with a 5 and an 8 thrown in for good measure. In the end, I shot 105 for the day. I have NEVER been that close to 100 before. And Dad had a fairly bad day and shot 96. I couldn't believe that my score was so close to his! And, it had only taken us 3 hours and 15 minutes to play 18 holes of golf (this course usually takes over 4. We didn't think I'd even get in all 18 before I had to leave). That's right, it was only 4:30 and I didn't have to leave until 5. I had enough time to get in a shower in the locker room.

Well, I got to the airport and started my shift at the Baggage Service Office counter. It was my dad to get the crazy irrational passengers. It was not fun. At 9pm I checked the page that tells us if we have to stay late or not. They have to give us 1 hours notice if they are going to require us to stay late. (This is one of the ONLY good things about our union). It was Sunday after a holiday and I was convinced that I was going to have to stay, but NO! there was nothing listed for that day. I get to go home on time. YEA!

Around 9:15pm I heard that a flight had cancelled. This sucks, on many levels, but it sounded like most of the passengers weren't going to be down at baggage claim until after I was gone, so I really didn't care.

Anyway, I was wrapping up my stuff at 9:50pm when my coworkers asked me what I was doing because it had been posted that everyone needed to stay. I short arguement ensued when I told them nothing was listed at 9:02pm and I had not been given 1 hours notice. This freaked me out, so I went and checked again. Sure enough, everyone needed to stay IF you got off work at 10:15PM or later. My shifted ended at 10pm. I WAS IN THE CLEAR! I got to go home while everyone else had to stay and deal with the cancelled flight. I was called a few choice names by my coworkers (it was all in fun and only because they were jealous that I got to go!) and I headed out the door.

Sunday had been a great day. I should have swung by one of the casinos on my way home because I have probably used up all the luck I had for a little while, but it was way worth it!
