Wow! I didn't realize it had been so long since I had posted anything!
I spent this past weekend in SLC. I got to hang out with friends on Saturday, which was a blast, and I saw the family on Sunday.
Chloe's first day of Kindergarten was today and Jen had a BBQ for her on Sunday. I told them I wasn't going to be able to make it so I could surprise them with my presence. It was a lot of fun. I miss Chloe and Lucy very much, and it was clear that they miss me too.
I didn't get much sleep this weekend, but it was worth it!
Oh yeah, the reason I didn't get any sleep is because I had to work at the airport on Friday from 10:45pm until 2:45am. I got home, packed and got ready then my friend came to pick me up at 5:30am so we could make our plane at 7:11am. I accidentally fell asleep for about 30 minutes just before 5 and I slept a little on the plane, but that was it for sleep on Friday. Sidebar: A friend of mine from the law firm, who is also from Utah, flew there and back with me. We each did our own thing in Utah and then met at the airport Monday morning to fly back.
Saturday I got about 8 hours of sleep.
Sunday night we didn't even go to bed until after 12, I fell asleep closer to 2am and had to be up at 4:15am to catch my flight at 7:15am. This time I slept throught the alarm and woke up when it was time to leave. Luckily I was able to get ready quickly and we got to the airport about 15 minutes later than I had planned.
Well, we didn't make the 7:15am flight. The agents at the gate weren't very nice, or forthcoming with information. After the flight left I told them I was an agent in Phoenix and asked if I could get on the computer to dig around for info. He agreed as long as I used my own login. NO PROBLEM! I then offered to help another woman who was flying non-rev on the same flight so he could leave the gate and do something else.
Anyway, it looked like we had a decent chance for getting on the flight at 10:30am so we hung out and waited. 10 minutes prior to check in cut off, there was still room and we would be getting on the flight. So we waited. I heard them call names that I was not familiar with being on the stand by list. ??? We didn't make the flight. After the same guy was done working the flight I went up to dig around some more. I learned that the 1:00pm flight had cancelled. He looked at me and said "I thought you knew that." HOW THE HELL WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT?! What a dumbass! Anyway, we didn't make the 10 o'clock flight because of people who had arrived at the airport early for the 1 o'clock flight. The next flight wasn't until 4:30pm. I helped rebook the woman from before and another woman. They were both very nice. Cathrine and I decided to take the bus into downtown to get out of the airport for a while. We offered for the other 2 women to join us, but they declined.
We took the bus into downtown and went to Gateway where we got some lunch. We thought about going to a movie, but there really wasn't anything playing we wanted to see. We decided to call a friend of mine who works for the same law firm we do, but in the Salt Lake office to see if we could come by, say hi, and check out the other office. Turns out she wasn't in, but her secretary showed us around. They have a WAY better office than we do. I'm totally jealous.
Anyway, we made our way back to the airport for the 2nd time in 10 hours to begin the wait for the next flight. The 2 women we had left had bonded while we were gone and had missed us.
There were new agents at the gate, who were also happy to let me get on the computer and help the non-revs so they didn't have to. This guy was pretty funny. He was teasing me with how many seats were left on the plane. I wasn't sure if he was joking around or toying with me. Quite frankly, I didn't care as long as I got on the plane. Not only did we get on the plane, but he gave us very nice seats! (usually when you non-rev you get middles in the back of the plane, because that is what is left. He gave me an aisle in row 7 and Cathrine a window in row 13. He was a very nice man!) I went back over to the 2 women. I had rebooked one through Vegas, but the other was still trying to get on the plane to Phoenix. She was at the bottom of a LONG list but it was looking like she was going to get on. A LOT of people had given up and were no longer in the airport. She did! She was very excited and I was happy for her.
When we got into Phoenix I rebooked her to her final destination on Tuesday. When I got into work last night, I checked her reservation. She had gotten on the first flight out that morning. I was very happy for her and sent Cathrine a text with the new info.
Monday was kind of stressfull. Cathrine and I had gone so far as to buy one way tickets on Southwest, just to make sure we got home. (We called and had those refunded on the way home from the airport.)
The rest of the weekend was really good. It was all worth it!
