Sarah Palin, Part 2

My response to Jenn's comment has become so long, I have decided to make it a post.

I have to admit, I don't know ANYTHING about Mr. Palin. I have no idea if he is a stay at home dad or if he too has a job outside of the home. If he is a stay at home dad, then he isn't doing a very good job. Yes, I would say the EXACT same thing if dad was the one running for office, and mom was the one at home. This is a family that needs the help and support of each other. This is not the time for one of the members of this family to be begging for a job that will take them away from their family even more, regardless of whether it is the mother or the father.

Let's say that Mr. Palin is a stay at home dad. That is not the same as a stay at home mom. Mom's and Dad's have different roles in raising a balanced and emotionally adjusted child. A lack of either influence causes negative effects.

At the end of the day, my opinion is that both parents in this family need to be focusing their attention towards their family, not their policital aspirations, regardless of their sex.

You describe Govenor Palin as a working mom. That is part of the problem. She isn't JUST a working mom. She is a woman who has chosen a career over the welfare of her children. Teenage pregnancy is a problem in this country. She should not be proud to be a part of this problem. The fact that her MINOR child made this "decision" speaks to the kind of parents Govenor Palin and her husband are. The fact that she has a BABY with special needs and she choses a job that will take her away from him speaks to the kind of parent she is.

I have made my opinions based on these facts.

Fact: Govenor Palin has a 17 year old daughter who is pregnant. The fact that she is pregnant NOW means she got pregnant AFTER JamieLynn Spears and the slew of other young celebrities who have recently had their babies.

Fact: Govenor Palin has a baby with Down Syndrome.

Fact: Govenor Palin accepted Senator McCain's offer to apply for a position which will take her away from her family even more than her current job already does.

Fact: Govenor of a large state and VP of a large country are NOT 8-5 jobs.

My post is based on my opinions about these FACTS about Govenor Palin.

I would like to point out that I made no mention of anyone's politics in my posting. That is because I know very little about where any of the candidates stand on most issues.

I do know that The New York Times is calling this one of the most negative presidential campaigns in a long time and that McCain started it.

I have never heard anything about the rumor about Obama and late term abortions, much less the quote on killing the fetus, but as I previously stated, I know very little about the candidates. I can not form thoughts enough to put words together to express the shock that I am feeling about this statement. All I can say is that the gears in my brain have just locked up.

I do believe that abortion should be legal, to a point (but that is a topic for another post, which I will probably never write). But, it did get me to wonder. Why would someone participating in a popularity contest make a statement so offensive to people on BOTH sides of an issue? That was all it took for the research to begin.

I started with the following google search: obama abortion "born alive"

This led me to a variety of web sites. Several from the Chicago Tribune and Illinois Review. These articles were full of opinions about Obama and his voting record and statements about the Illinois bill and the federal bill, but did not contain the actual LANGUAGE of the bills. Basically, these articles were no different than this blog post, opinions. I was looking for facts, not opinions, so I kept looking. I finally found a site hosted by the National Right to Life Coalition. Now, even though I do not agree with them, I have a LOT of respect for them. They have posted the "Factcheck" issued by the Obama Campaign regarding this issue on their web site. Even though they don't like Obama, at least they are willing to tell you both sides of the story so you can make your own informed decision.

Anyway, I have added the link to the factcheck because I feel you should take a look at it and form your own opinion about Obama and his position based on the facts, not just SOMEONE ELSE'S opinion of the facts. I understand that you may feel that this article is biased, since it was issued by Obama's campaign. But you should know that this factcheck was the FIRST article I found that gave me the oportunity to actually read, for myself, the bills that were referred to in the other articles I read. And they aren't just quoted. They have links to the actual bills.

MY opinion about what I read is that Obama doesn't want to kill babies. He is trying to protect Roe v Wade. As someone who does believe in abortion, I can respect and appreciate that. I can also see how someone who doesn't believe in abortion, would NOT want Roe protected.

You absolutely have the right to not vote for him because he believes in Roe, that is what makes this country great. But you shouldn't not vote for him because SOMEONE ELSE believes that he wants to kill babies.

WOW, my blog has never even gotten CLOSE to being this serious! It is usually just a soap box for me to vent or praise from. Please do not expect it remain this serious. :)

I too have been doing some intresting research. And there is no way I will vote for Obama. It isn't just the abortion isue. And Hilary and other Dem. voted against the bill...He finaly voted present. In my opinion you should base your vote on more than weather the vp is a mom.

I didn't say I wasn't voting for her because she is a mom. It is the mom thing that pisses me off about her. In all honestly, other than that she was a mayor of a small town before becoming govenor, I can honestly say I know NOTHING about her.

Here is a party who doesn't believe that gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to adopt, but it is okay for a parent with a pregnant teenage daughter and a special needs baby to NOT focus her attention on her family. That is my issue.
