Okay, so this has not been the best week for me, it hasn't exactly been bad, but it has been weird, and just when you think it can't get any wierder, it does.
1st - Last week my mom called because my grandpa is sick and she and my aunt need to get to Minnesota to clean out his apartment because he is being transfered to a hospice facility. She called back later that day to let me know that he had died. It was unexpected and peaceful
2nd - The flight that my mom and my aunt were going to fly out on filled up. I spent the morning at the airport making sure they got on the plane. Thank goodness they did!
3rd - The funeral was on Thursday, I was going to fly out on Wednesday. On my way home from work on Tuesday, my raditor cracked (it was only 16 years old, can you believe it?). There was no way I could leave town with a broken car. On Tuesday I go back to working both jobs Tuesday - Friday. I need my car. Oh yeah, did I mention that I had only had my car for a 10 days? I just had $1800 worth of repairs done and the damn thing still broke on me!
4th - Wednesday, I am sitting in my house going through boxes when my phone rings. It's Tiger. I decide to answer it. I hear a small voice on the other end tell me he needs a favor and I can say no. Tiger has gotten into his 3rd prevetable accident in less than 2 years. His employers policy states that this is automatic termination. He will find out the next day, but he needs a place to live and can he move in. I know he doesn't have any other options so I agree he can move in.
5th - Thursday, I still don't have my car back, my mom is calling to see when/if I will be able to come to MN and Tiger calls. He has been fired and will be here as soon as he finishes cleaning out his truck. I had been going through the boxes of crap in my storage room. I have a lot more to do now, I need to turn my storage room back into a guest room so Tiger can live there. Fun fun.
6th - Friday. Tiger and I went to get my car from the shop. It was finally done after they had tried to convince me I needed more things done. Typical. I offered to Tiger that he could take the car to get the rest of his stuff out of his truck. (Motorcycles are not the best for moving!) He asked if I would go with him. It is an hour each way so I agree to go as moral support. The car needs gas, but we'll get it on the way back. No...wait...we have no money! That's right. We pull into the gas station in Casa Grande only to discover that he didn't bring his wallet and I only grabbed by ID, not my debit card. We scrounge $0.89 out of my car. Tiger checks his bags for money and finds his check book, but alas, no ID. We do have his SS card and his work badge with a picture (they haven't taken it from him yet). We go into the gas station to see if they will take his check, with my $.89 cents as a back up. They don't take checks, but someone left a quarter on the counter. $1.14 in gas later, and we are on our way. It isn't enough to get us home, but it will get us to a truck stop on the edge of Phoenix. But alas, they don't take checks either. Now I'm desperate and I swear to god, I stood in front of the door begging for money. No I'm not kidding. Holding my Blackberry and all! NO ONE WOULD GIVE ME MONEY. This was my line: "Can you spare any money? I am almost home and have no money and no gas. Can you please help me?" Now you have to understand, I am saying this as fast as I can as everyone walks past me. I didn't actually approach people, I just spit this out as they walked past. Now, I knew it would have helped if my car was parked nearby, but unfortunately the only open spot was not near the door. I had no way to prove I even had a car to these people. It only took about a minute before I decided to give up. It was 10 pm on a Friday and I wasn't going to waste my time. I was heading over to Tiger and the car when a 8 - 10 year old Indian kid walked up and gave me a dollar (that equals 1/3 of a gallon and gets me about 10 miles. I was less than 20 from home.). I thanked him profusely and he actually reached into his pocket and gave me another dollar. I thank him even MORE profusely. I was so grateful that this kid had given me money. I turned to head back to Tiger with a huge grin on my face when an Indian woman who had been sitting in the car in front of me got out and gave me 2 more dollars. I thanked her profusely. We could now buy and entire gallon of gas. We could get home. Yeah! I went inside and gave the cashier my 4 dollars and a pump number. As I was on my way out when I passed the kid and 2 women he was with. I thanked them again. As I walked back up to Tiger I told him that I found it interesting that it was 2 Indians that gave me money and no one else could help. Was it because I am Indian that no one else would help me, except the Indians, or was it purely a coinsidence? We will never know, but I will always wonder.
It is only Saturday, I'm eager to see what wierd thing is going to happen next!
