Moving

So, a few weeks ago, a friend of mine mentioned that she was going to need to find a new roommate because her current roommate had just found out that she was pregnant. I told her that I would move in with her. My lease was going to be up the end of January, and my landlords were raising the rent again, and I was no longer going to be able to afford to continue to live there by myself. That is when the negotiations began.

I don't know all of the details, but the current roommate seems to be looking for "the perfect" place to move to so she never has to move again after the baby is born. I think she is talking about buying a house with the father, but then there are times when it sounds like she is just looking for a great apt. Regardless of where she is looking to move to, she was reluctant to give a date when she would move out until she knew where/when she would be moving into the new place. Here is the kicker: she hadn't even BEGUN looking for a new place.

In the end, the short version to a long and confusing story is that after lots of discussion, the current roommate FINALLY agreed to move out by April 1st. I was only able to get my current landlords to let me stay an extra month. This means that I have to be out of my current apt by midnight on the 29th of February and will not be able to move into my new apartment until the 1st of April.

My new roommate owns most of the furnishings in her apartment, so most of my stuff is going into storage anyway, but for the next month, more of my stuff will be going into storage.

The good news for me is that my dad is living in the condo in SLC for a few weeks right now, so I will be "house sitting" for him for a few weeks. I will have to find a place to relocate to when he returns.

My dad's house is NOT the ideal solution to this problem. It is going to take me an hour, and a gallon of gas, to get to and from work everyday. I DO NOT commute, so this is going to be MISERABLE for me. There is a reason I currently live 5 miles/15 minutes from work.

Granted, the new apt isn't much better. It is about 10 miles farther away from work than my current apt. The good news is that the lease is up in October. At that time I am going to see if I can't talk my roommate into moving to an apartment that is closer to where we both work. Not that I am all that interested in moving, again, but I am less interested in a 45 minute commute to and from work everyday.

That isn't my concern right now. Right now my primary concern is moving this time. I'll worry about 3 moves from now later.
