Finally!

It is slow as hell here today. My paralegal isn't here and didn't leave me with enough projects before she left. Oh well, now I can update everyone!

First: Ebay

Yes, my modem broke and I only bought is a year ago. To be fair to the modem company, I broke the modem, but that is a whole different story. Anyway...I didn't feel like paying another $60 for a modem so I decided to see what was available on ebay. I got the exact same modem for $30 and it arrived at my desk this morning. I will hook it up tomorrow. Finally! High speed internet at home again!

I have been working a TON and have many many hours of overtime at the lawfirm, so I also bought a brand new keyboard as well. I also got it off ebay so I half what it would cost in the stores. I LOVE ebay! It is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

Second: New Airline shift

I really like my job at the airline, but I HATE bidding for shifts. Basically, every 3 months we have to choose our shifts all over again, plus they change the shift times (this bid my shift is 6:15 pm - 11:15pm, the same shift next bid is from 5:00pm - 9:00 pm). This bites hard! I get really stressed out everytime it gets close to the bid coming out because if they don't come up with something that works around my full time job, I'm going to have to quit, and I don't want to quit. Clearly I haven't had to quit yet, but there is always that chance! Anyway...I get REALLY stressed out when it comes to picking shifts. There are only so many of each shift and you pick your shift based on where you are in seniority. I am still pretty low at #208, but when I started a year ago (Feb. 13th was my anniversary) I was #248 so it's not like I haven't moved up. Anyway...this bid was especially stressful because my buddy bidder backed out on me AFTER I had already turned in my shift request sheet. (A buddy bidder is a person who works your shifts in exchange for you working theirs on a regular basis) Now I was back at square one. The good news is that you get to go in in person and pick which shift you actually want. While I was standing at the airport trying to figure out what shift I wanted out of those that were left I heard 2 of the girls I was hired with working out how they were going to bid so they could buddy bid. They then mentioned that they would like a third so they could get more days off. I jumped in at this point and offered to be their 3rd (it is called triple bidding, go figure) as long as I only worked weekends and that I would work all weekends. They jumped on that! So we went in and signed up for shifts that matched up. So for the 2 months from March 11th 'till May 12th I will be working from 7:45 am until 9:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and that's it! I am very excited about this because I will be able to get plenty of sleep 7 days a week (quite the change for me) and when I do need a day off, one of them will work for me so I won't have to pay or trade someone to work for me. Trust me this is very exciting news!

Third: The law firm

One of my 2 paralegals quit so now I only work for one paralegal. The firm has decided not to fill her vacant position. Bummer. I've only been here for 9 months, so I'm not sure if I would have had a shot at the job or not, but now we will never know. My remaining paralegal is taking on additional cases to justify one paralegal having 2 assistants. This is good because I carpool with the other assistant and we work really well together. Neither of us wants to be moved to a different team. It turns out that our paralegal has been asking around and it looks like she is going to join forces with another paralegal who does not currently have an assitant, so I shall return to being the servant to 2 masters. Only time will tell how that will work out!

Well, I must return to work now. Hopefully I will get the chance to post more tomorrow!
