I think it is time for me to take a real vacation. Passengers are bugging me again and I have learned that the best way to get over it is to get on a plane (for free) and go somewhere, even if it just for a day.
Spring break has begun, which means that the next 6 weekends are going to SUCK at the airport. Add to that baseball spring training and we have PURE HELL at the airport. Basically what this means is that we have a whole lot of people that have no idea what they are doing that have to deal with a whole lot of people that have no idea what they are doing. Believe me, this is a recipe for distaster. (What I mean by disaster is a lot of people that don't allow enough time to get to their flight, so they miss their flight, so they yell at me because there were so many people in line to check their bags and at security.) They have no idea that other people are traveling at the same time and that the airport just might be busier than usual because everyone else is doing the EXACT SAME THING they are. (P.S. The FAA suggests getting to the airport an hour early to get through SECURITY. You have to allow additional time to stand in line behind all those SAME PEOPLE if you want to check bags! Maybe you should allow ANOTHER hour for that. Dumbasses!) It is not my fault there is a line. It is not my fault you did not allow enought time to get to your flight.
Don't get me wrong. I understand that it is frustrating when you miss your flight. I understand that you have plans and that you have a very good reason for needing to be home. But you need to understand that so does EVERYONE else! Here's the kicker. I am happy to book you on the next available flight to your destination. Our airline, unlike others, does not charge you for missing your flight and puting you on the next flight available. The key word here is AVAILABLE. Many times, especially on the weekend, there are a lot of people flying to the same place you are and ALL the flights just might be full. You just might have to wait to see if you can get on a flight standby because YOU missed the flight YOU were GUARANTTEED a seat on. No you do not get priority on the later flight because you missed your flight.
Yes, it sucks that the first flight I can guarantee you a seat on isn't until Monday afternoon, but you know what? Yelling at me isn't going to change anything. I do not have any special powers that creates more seats on an airplane. I can not make not show up for their flight. I can not put another plane in the air just for you. I can not send you on another airline because you didn't allow enough time to get to your plane (besides, they are probably full too!).
Well, I feel a little better now, but I still need a vacation!
