1 day

I have decided that it would be easiest to give Eddie his pills before he gets his food. I feed him twice a day and he needs the meds twice a day. It's perfect. There is no way I will forget to give him the meds cause there is no CHANCE he will let me forget to feed him.

Yesterday was ugly. I had the WORST time getting the pill down him. I knew the vet made it look easy, but wow, I'm really bad at it. After breakfast yesterday I wondered how long it would take for him to stop begging for his food, or at least his breakfast. Dinner was worse than breakfast, and I didn't think that was possible. Let's just say it is a good thing I have been clipping his claws!

It took one day.

Today was the first day in as long as I can remember since I got Eddie that he didn't wake me up. Even when he isn't pawing at my face, he is walking back and forth across my body and meowing once he knows I am awake.

Not today. Today I woke up and had to look for him. He was lying quietly on the bed next to me. Even once he knew I was awake, he didn't move. I reached over and pet him for a minute. He liked that, but still no meowing.

I got up, then he meowed. For the first time in a LONG TIME I didn't follow him into the kitchen. He LAGGED behind. Today I decided that I would give him a break with the pill. I crushed it up and mixed it into the soft food I give him with every meal. He meowed at me while I prepared his food, but not with NEARLY as much intensity as usual.

Once his food was ready, I got the antibiotic ready. I can not give him the meds the same way the vet did, so back to wrapping him in the straight jacket (a towel) it was. Once I got him in the towel I did use the head tilting trick and gave him the liquid meds. He didn't fight and all, and swallowed it with no problem. I pet his head for a minute (while his ears were back), let him go, and gave him his breakfast.

When he was done he returned to his usual position on my bed, and let me pet him. He's mad, but not pissed off. It will be interesting to see if he begs for dinner when I get home. ;)

He only has to take the antibiotic for 10 days. It will be interesting to see how long after it is gone it takes before he starts begging for his meals again.

Is it bad that I feel bad for him, but also think it is just a little bit funny? I will treasure not being woken up for as long as it lasts. :)

WHen scottie needed his meds I just dropped them on top of his food and he ate them. i knew I was spoiled.
No sticking the pill as far back in his throat as possible...no gaging...no finding the pill on the floor ten minutes later ;)
