Okay, so Terra and Jason moved from Richmond, VA to Knoxville, TN back in August. Jason has a company car so he left the car he is making payments on in the parking lot at his employers headquarters in Richmond. There it has sat. Terra has been trying to convince him to sell it, but he doesn't want to sell his "sports car." I use the term sports car loosly. It is actually a silver 1999 Mazda Miata Convertible. No one else on the PLANET considers this a sports car but him, and he is a 26 year old guy who feels cool owning a sports car. What can you do?
Anyway, he finally agreed to sell it, but it is hard to sell a car located in a different state. I got a call from Terra about a month ago asking me if I would meet her in Richmond to help her drive the car to Knoxville. I'm not really a road trip person, but this sounded like fun. If nothing else, we would have a good time catching up. Boy was I stupid.
1st - Getting to the Car
In order to get to Richmond at a reasonable time on Saturday, I left PHX at 11:30pm on Friday night on a 3 hour and 52 minute flight to Cleveland. I had a little less than a 2 hour layover before I caught a 1 hour and 31 minute flight to Philadelphia at 7:09am. I had a little less than a 2 hour layover in Philly before catching a 1 hour and 1 minute flight to Richmond. I finally landed in Richmond at noon on Saturday, completely disoriented as to what day it was.
Current travel time: 6 hours 24 minutes.
The highlight of the trip was meeting a flight attendant in Cleveland who was on her way to Albany via Philly. We talked during the layover in Cleveland and she showed me how to get to my gate in Philly. Luckily her gate was across from mine. Philly airport is weird, so it was nice to have someone show me where to go.
Terra took a flight from Knoxville to Richmond and landed 20 minutes before I did, so she met me at the gate. From there we went to pick up the rental car. I HATED this car. Not only was it a stripped down model because it was a rental, but we couldn't even find the buttons to adjust the mirrors! Then I acutally started driving it. Holy shit! This thing was horrible. Blind spots like you wouldn't believe! I took our life into my hands everytime I changed lanes because it was so hard to see!
The parking lot with the Miata was about an hour away from the airport and we made it there without much difficulty. The biggest obstacle was that we got off the freeway one exit early, but this was just the beginning.
Current total travel time: 7 hours 24 minutes.
