Interesting

This may come as a shock to many of you, but I am a naturally friendly person. I know, I know, it may not always seem like it, but it is true. It is one of the reasons I enjoy my job at the airport as much as I do.

I was in the airport (not on duty/not in uniform) the other day, and noticed an interesting phenominon - again.

When I am in uniform I can smile and say hello to ANYONE (passengers, airline employees and crew members from ANY airline, airport employees, etc) and they will at LEAST smile back, most will say HI in return. When I am NOT in my uniform, MOST will either look at me funny, or ignore me. The ONLY group of people who consistently DO NOT react this way are the volunteers who are there to give passengers directions.

Because I am in the airport SO much, I don't think about the fact that I am NOT in uniform when I am not working. Basically, what I mean is that this hasn't happened once or twice. I have conducted an extremely NON scientific experiement over, and over, and over and have gotten the exact same results everytime.

I find it interesting that people are friendly to you if you work there, but not friendly to you if you are just being friendly.

Now of course, I can't say for sure it this is EVERY airport, or just Sky Harbor. I can tell you that I get the same reaction when NOT in uniform in other airports, I just have NO IDEA what the reaction would be if I WERE in uniform.
