I have been watching my friend's dog, Lucca, for almost 2 months now. When I first got him he was bouncing off the walls. I decided that he was an extremely high energy dog and that I would take him on bike rides to work the excess energy out. It worked like a charm. It only took a few weeks before I was able to not kennel him at. He went through rawhide like it was going out of style, but as long as I don't leave anything on the floor, he didn't chew anything up (I did lose a few pens because they were on the floor).
As time went on, everything was going well. I am becoming more and more his "pack leader", until last week. Something has gone terribly wrong. He has started chewing up EVERYTHING! I had gotten lazy about my shoes, because he wasn't chewing on them. I have now lost 2 pair and my orthodic inserts in the last week! I lost 2 socks in 1 day, and I have NO IDEA where he got the socks from. :(
The situation is getting desperate. I already run him twice a day 3-3.5 miles at a time. I even make him run for at LEAST the first mile and a half, then we slow down to a fast jog. I decided that he must have acclimated and needed to run farther/faster. This morning we went 4 miles. I made him run the first mile an a half. He was dragging behind me by the time we were done. I got in the shower to get ready for work. When I got out I went to check on him. This was when I found him chewing on my tennis shoe/orthodic. The shoe is fine. The orthodic is destroyed.
I am at my wits end. He is still less than 2 years old, so I expect the chewing, but that is why he has toys and rawhide. :(
Any suggestions?
