Kitty Spa Day

Saturday I decided it was time for a Eddie to have a Kitty Spa Day. What is a "Kitty Spa Day" you ask? Well, since you asked, I'll tell you.

Kitty Spa Day is when you drug your cat with kitty Valium THEN clip their nails, brush them and give them a bath. See, just like a human spa day of a mani, pedi, and getting your hair done. :) (I am ignoring anything you say about the Valium.)

Eddie HATES to have all of the above done, but he needs them all, BADLY. He is shedding a TON since coming from UT, for a number of reasons. Because of this, he has been having a problem with hairballs. I really did do this to help him. Clipping his nails was more for me than him, I'll admit it. My arms are COVERED in scratches. (I am allergic to cats, so it really doesn't take much for it to look like he mauled me, when all he did is sit on my lap!)

First, I had to administer the Valium. This meant wrapping him up in a towel and getting him to consume a teaspoon of "Calm Down for Cats." If I had video, I would post it..you would laugh.

I waited about 45 minutes for the "Valium" to take effect. You could tell it was working because he couldn't balance to swat at a ribbon (his favorite game), nor was he walking more than about 2 feet before laying down.

I then started on the nails. He would still attack me, but with not NEARLY as much power as he normally would. It still took time. I would clip 2 then wait, clip 1 more then wait, so on and so on. I did this first because then he couldn't scratch me while I brushed him. :)

Eddie HATES to be brushed. I got this cool brush that gets way more hair than any other brush I have EVER used. By the time I was done, I had a firm hand full of hair, and I still wasn't even CLOSE to getting it all.

You should have heard him growling at me! It was really quite funny. He never took a swat at me, or tried to bite me, but he made it CLEAR how unhappy he was.

I finally decided to give him a break and I stopped brushing him. I also decided not to torture him with a bath, although I reserve the right to move the bath to THIS weekend. :)

After I was done, I gave him a bunch of treats and some catnip. He took the treats, but would not sit next to me (he was still too drugged to go to another room. LOL!) He did NOT sleep on my bed with me that night either. By breakfast time the next morning, we were friends again.

I don't think Eddie likes spa days. ;) Next time I'm going to use the treat version of the Valium instead of the liquid. I think that will make all the difference. LOL!
