Usually when I come home, I will see Eddie looking through the blinds on the patio door once he sees me he takes his place next to the front door. It he isn't there, he is on the couch, which isn't far from the door. IF he isn't there, he is on the bed. It takes about 5 seconds for me to find him when I get home, and that is only if he is still laying on the bed. NORMALLY he is at the door talking to me, usually making sure I don't forget to feed him.
I came home at lunch the other day and Eddie wasn't waiting for me next to the door. I said hello to him, and heard him respond, but he wasn't on the couch. I took the few steps required to see if he was on the bed. Nope.
I bent down to see if he was on the kitchen chairs. This was one of his favorite places when Lucca was staying with us, but I haven't seen him there since. Nope.
I went into the bedroom to see if I just couldn't see him. All the while I was wandering around the house, I kept talking to him, and he kept responding.
"Kitty"
"meow"
"Eddie, come here boy" (Yes, he comes when called. My cat ROCKS!)
"meow"
These were tiny little meows. He does this sometimes. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but it isn't unusual.
After I had search his usual haunts I stood in the middle of the living room/apartment.
"Kitty Kitty!"
"meow"
NO WAY! I walked into the kitchen and opened the pantry. Eddie came running out. I don't know when he went in there, but I had clearly shut the door on him. I suck a jerk that all I could do was laugh. As I walked around, he was 6 inches from my legs. When I finally sat on the couch, he was in my lap.
I am so glad that Eddie is the way he is or who KNOWS how long he would have been in there.
I'm also thankful he didn't leave anything for me in there. :)
