Chloe's Broken Nose, or not

So the Saturday after Thanksgiving Chloe was running around at her grandparent's house (Jon's parents) and fell on her face on their front deck. No one saw it happen but there was a LOT of blood and her nose became swollen.

Since her nose didn't hurt anymore after a few minutes and it didn't look or feel broken, Jen didn't think much of it. She didn't even mention it to me until Tuesday.

When she finally did she told me that not only was it swollen, but that Chloe had bruising under her eyes. I was a little confused that she hadn't taken her to the doctor, but the bruising REALLY got my attention. I began to ask more questions and all I really got was that Jen didn't feel it was broken because Chloe wasn't in pain.

It took a little bit of doing, but I finally convinced Jen that lack of pain did not mean her nose wasnt' broken. I have broken mine 3 times and it stopped hurting after a few minutes each time.

Jen took Chloe to the pediatrician that day. The pediatrician decided that it would be a good idea to see and ENT. "Better to be safe than stupid," were the doctors words.

Jen heads straight to the ENT's office from the pediatrician. They look at it and tell say there is a 60% chance that Chloe will have to have surgery to put her nose back in place. They wanted to wait a week for the swelling to go down, then reevaluate.

Here is where it gets fun.

Jen took Chloe in yesterday. They waited in his office for over an hour after the appointment time before being taken to a room to wait for the doctor. He FINALLY came in and couldn't determine if the surgery was necessary or not. He suggested that she get x-rays and see a pediatric cranio-facial specialist. Without skipping a beat Jen told him she wanted to talk to Dr. Morales, the INCREDIBLE surgeon who did most of my surgeries.

Jen made an appointment with the pediatricians office to have the x-rays done then they went to kill 3 hours before the appointment. When they got there they were told that office didn't do facial x-rays, even though Jen had told them she needed sinus x-rays. It was now 4pm and they were heading to the hospital. Fun. She had to wait for the films to take them to Dr. Morales then left.

This morning Jen got a call from the ENT's office. According to the x-rays, Chloe's nose isn't broken. WHAT?! Jen was LIVID. She has been worried. Chloe has been worried, and EVERYONE'S life has been revolving around whether or not Chloe was going to need surgery. Jen asked why the x-rays weren't ordered sooner. The woman on the phone told her it was becuase the swelling could distort the images. Oh, no. You read that right. This woman actually wanted my sis to believe that swelling can effect x-rays. I am going to laugh about that for DAYS!

The ENT still suggested she see Dr. Morales (we are POSITIVE this is a CYA move). Jen cancelled the appointment with Morales but asked if he would look at the films anyway. She pulled the "my parents gave you a lot of money through my sister" card(indirectly of course). They agreed to have him look at them.

He declared that everything was fine. Jen was talking to the receptionist when the Dr. came out from the back. He looked at Chloe and declared her to have a perfect nose. If he declares it perfect, it is, BELIEVE ME! He has scruitinzed my face enough over the years, and he did an EXCELLANT job. :)

Jen is still pissed at the ENT for not doing the x-rays sooner, but we are all happy that Chloe's nose is NOT broken and she won't need surgery.

I have attached the not so great picture Jen took of Chloe while they were waiting for the doctor LAST week.
